Cafe’ de Chinitas。Before I noticed it, I have watched the show there for 3 hours.
On the first essay, I said that “if there’s time, I want to go to Spain”, and so there I went! To Madrid in Spain! I didn’t think I could realise that plan so quickly…
When my schedule has calmed down a bit from the concert preparation and recording, I heard that I’ve a 4 days break. I thought about how I can use these off days towards the performance in Shochikuza in August, and decided that “Let’s go to Spain and watch Flamenco at its source for 2 days and 4 nights!” and planned the trip one week before like I often do. The best time is when you decided!
This is the first time I’ve been to Spain. Plus I don’t know anyone there. Since I don’t know anything about the culture and language, I spend all the free time between work looking and language books and maps. However, within such a short time, I depart without understanding much!
Since the trip is very short this time, one day went passed very quickly. I went out for lunch and some sightseeing, and went to watch bullfighting in the evening (I felt the enthusiasm from the audience in the passionate battle), at night, I went to watch flamenco at the restaurant, the schedule was very tightly packed.
The world that unfolds on the stage is very passionate no matter where you look. Especially since this dance was born from Gypsies, you can somehow feel the sorrowful cry. I think you cannot just put it down as “art”.
Regarding the body movement, I’ve watched carefully everything from the angle of face, the angle of the gaze, the position of the feet and fingertips, to the subtle movement and the speed (gives up trying to translate).
This trip was mainly for the dance, and after I came back I immediately started taking lessons for Flamenco, now I’m learning the rhythm with my body. It is quite a difficult dance to learn, but I want to work hard on getting accustomed to it.
